Trying to meticulously rank each and every player at multiple positions is tricky, and let us be honest. People rarely ever follow to a ‘T’ a ranking sheet. We look at players in the same area. We draft based on how we perceive players in groups and where that dividing line is between one group to the next group. If I was forced to rank, how they are ordered is pretty much how I would rank them. At the end of the day, though, it is your team. Draft who you like. If you are a huge Jalen Hurts fan, then wouldn’t your fantasy season be more exciting for you if he was on your team as opposed to taking a “higher ranked” quarterback in the same tier who may or may not be much better? Good luck with your drafts. I hope this helps you in that endeavor.

NOTE:  Players moving up tiers are in Green while players moving down tiers are in RedNew comments are in Blue.

Tier 1-”the 99 problems but a QB ain’t one” Tier

  • Josh Allen, BUF
  • Lamar Jackson, BAL

Allen has finished in the top 2 in the QB position (standard scoring) each year dating back to 2020.  I don’t see why he doesn’t continue that trend.  Jackson, meanwhile, has finished as a top 10 QB in points per game in every year since 2029, and he outscored any other QB by about 50 points last season.

Tier 2-”should be able to set it and forget it” Tier

  • Jalen Hurts, PHI
  • Joe Burrow, CIN
  • Patrick Mahomes, KC
  • Jayden Daniels, WAS

As long as the “brotherly shove/tush push” is legal, Hurts will be an upper end fantasy QB.  Burrow is going to pass, and pass a lot, to try and outscore opposing offenses due to the concerns regarding Cincy’s defense.  The last two seasons for Mahomes have not been fantasy gold, whether he had WR issues, OT issues, or both.  This year, it seemingly does look like those issues have been addressed (though the LG play has not been great so far in preseason).  If so, we could see more of the fireworks, the kind we saw in his first several seasons.  Daniels was impressive as a rookie.  The main concern, however, is how will he fare IF nothing is resolved with Terry McLaurin?  That is why he is at the bottom of this tier.

The looming suspension of Rashee Rice was already factored into Mahomes being here.  I think KC’s receiving unit is deeper this year than the last several, so he should still be good.  With McLaurin signed, Daniels should be solid.  I just can’t bump him up above the others on this list.

Tier 3- “still a QB1” Tier

  • Baker Mayfield, TB
  • Jared Goff, DET
  • Bo Nix, DEN

Mayfield and Goff have both resurrected their careers with new teams.  Mayfield has proved many critiques wrong the last couple of years, as he has finished as a top 10 fantasy QB the last two seasons.  He may not have Chris Godwin (WR), Jalen McMillan (WR), or Tristan Wirfs (OT) to start the season, but he still has TD-maker Lee Evans (WR) and rookie Emeka Egbuka (WR).  In addition, Godwin, McMillan, and Wirfs will return.  Goff has now finished as a top 10 fantasy QB two years in a row, and he is going to have the same weapons as well as rookie Isaac TeSlaa, who may be a factor down the stretch.  Nix proved capable in his rookie season, and in theory, should continue.

Tier 4- “borderline QB1/QB2” Tier

  • Brock Purdy, SF
  • Dak Prescott, DAL
  • Justin Herbert, LAC
  • Kyler Murray, ARI

Yes, there may not be many WRs to throw to at the start of the season for Purdy, but he still has weapons.  Dallas’s OL is a bit suspect, and Prescott has only stayed healthy for the entirety of 2 of his last 5 seasons.  Still, the addition of George Pickens (WR) should help.  Herbert is talented, but his ceiling is limited in Coach Harbaugh’s offense.  I have concerns with Murray’s ceiling, which is why the others are above him.

Tier 5- “the I wouldn’t want to go into the season with one of these being my QB1, but???” Tier

  • Jordan Love, GB
  • C.J. Stroud, HOU
  • Drake Maye, NE
  • Caleb Williams, CHI
  • J.J. McCarthy, MIN
  • Matthew Stafford, LAR
  • Sam Darnold, SEA
  • Cameron Ward, TEN
  • Trevor Lawrence, JAC
  • Michael Penix Jr., ATL
  • Geno Smith, LV
  • Bryce Young, CAR
  • Justin Fields, NYJ
  • Tua Tagovailoa, MIA

Each one of these QBs could exceed expectations and are solid QB2s with upside. Stafford is this low because he is 37 and already having back issues before the season has even started.  Can he last the season?  I am simply not a big fan of Field in fantasy.  Tua has a very suspect OL.  Can he stay healthy?

Tier 6- “the good luck with that” Tier

  • Jaxson Dart, NYG
  • Joe Flacco, CLE
  • Dillon Gabriel, CLE
  • Shedeur Sanders, CLE
  • Tyler Shough, NO
  • Russell Wilson, NYG
  • Aaron Rodgers, PIT
  • Daniel Jones, IND
  • Anthony Richardson, IND
  • Kenny Pickett, CLE
  • Spencer Rattler, NO
  • Shedeur Sanders, CLE

Dart, Sanders, and Shough may actually be good, but when they will actually start is up in the air. Flacco could still have his moments but relying on that and him keeping the starting gig is probably not wise.

With Gabriel securing the back-up position in Cleveland, he moves up.  Flacco would be higher if not for concern that Cleveland may want to take a look at the rookie down the stretch.  I believe Dart is inevitable, which is why he is higher than Wilson.
