So, you read Winsto’s rankings, and you have a solid idea of who to draft and when. Wait! What? You have not read his articles. Well, as soon as you finish this fine piece of prose, you need to read them thar purty notations. Back to the matter at hand. For this year, let’s talk to you guys who waited until preseason was over, ideal choice, before doing your draft, and you have decided to do a “regular draft.” So, when I say regular draft, I mean something that mirrors a real sports draft where the worst team from the previous year (if keeper league) or randomly chosen team (one and done or initial year of keeper league) chooses first each round, followed pick by pick in order from worst to first, and then each team drafts in that same order each and every round. You get it, right?

If you are in a keeper league, and the draft order is based upon worst to first from your league’s previous year’s standings, you will be participating in the most equal and fair type of draft to promote universal competition. However, if you are not in a keeper league, a one and done league, then this type of draft is the least equitable type, for where you fall in the random order will probably determine where you finish at the end of the year.

Of course, there are some variants to this, but you have already honed in on the most important one, heeding our advice here at the rooster.

With that in hand,, let’s get back to those of you in a keeper league. You will need to consider current and future years, short and long term. Who you select will be based both upon who you kept from the previous year and where you draft for the current one. For example, if you kept a WR and a RB in a 2 keeper league, you are open to getting the best available player at any draft position. But, if you kept 2 RBs, you should probably lean toward getting the best WR available for your first pick. There are many nuisances and things to consider, so feel free to reach out to me Brooksie @fantasyrooster1 and/or to Winsto @FantasyRooster on X for some free advice.

Back to you non-keeper league folk. You need to pray to whichever god or gods you worship, or if you don’t currently have one, then pick one and hope they bless you with a top 3 pick, or at the least, one in the 1st half of your draft. If you do get a top pick, you should do well, well because you looked at winsto’s rankings, followed his advice, and picked solidly. The only thing that could derail you is injuries and not keeping up with us here at the rooster each week for more solid advice. For you bottom dwellers, you need to wheel and deal with your competitors and wine and dine the waiver wire, as well as check out the rooster each week for Winsto’s thoughts and my Start/Sit advice because you will need it in order to pull yourself up out of the trenches. So, there you

go. Fantasy football basics on how to approach a regular draft.

Good luck to all you regular drafters. And as noted, reach out to us on X for any specific thoughts, questions, observations, admonishments, praises, etc.

Once your draft has completed, check out the rooster every week for Winsto’s wonderings and wrap-ups, our weekly rankings, and my start/sit advice for both early games and for the weekend ones too.

Good night, and good luck.
