Reaction to Week 17: I am done and ready to sit down. Were my sitters happy with being sat? Let’s see. First off, at QB, I said to sit Justin Herbert and C. J. Stroud. Herbert had 236 yards passing, 37 yards rushing, 1 TD, and 1 pick. I was right to sit him. Stroud ended up with 244 yards passing, 2 TDs, and 2 picks. I was right to sit him too. At RB, I said to sit Breece Hall and Rico Dowdle. Hall had 111 yards rushing, 15 yards receiving, and a TD. I was wrong to sit him. Dowdle ended up with 59 yards rushing and nothing else. I was right to sit him. At wide out, I said to sit Michael Pittman, Jr. and Khalil Shakir. Pittman had 16 yards receiving and nothing else. I was right to sit him. Shakir ended up with 35 yards receiving and nothing else, so I was right to sit him too. At tight end, I said to sit Dalton Kincaid and Dallas Goedert, or all tight ends in their game. Kincaid did not play, so we look at Dawson Knox. He had 30 yards receiving and nothing else. I was right to sit him. Goedert ended up with only 8 yards receiving, but he managed a TD. Good enough for tight ends, so I was wrong to sit him. For the team defenses, I said to sit the Eagles and the Bears. The Eagles won, held the Bills to 12 points, along with 5 sacks and a fumble recovery. I was wrong to sit them. The Bears, meanwhile, lost, gave up 42 points, along with a sack, a pick, and a defensive score. I was still right to sit them, even with the defensive score.
QB:
Matt Stafford – The Rams’ starters are going to play, but I’m just not buying them playing the whole game, so their stats should be limited. Hope you are not relying on him for a big game.
Baker Mayfield – He did not do well a few weeks ago against the top 10 ranked Panthers D, and I don’t see him changing his results this week at home for a playoff berth against them. Not gonna happen.
RB:
Jaylen Warren – Baltimore’s rush D has gradually been getting better, and the last time out he did nothing on the ground against them, only having his day saved with a receiving TD. Don’t expect the same; he will be bottled up.
Tony Pollard – He has come along recently, but I don’t expect it to end this way against the Jags, who are tops in the league in least rushing yards allowed per game. Better hope for a squeaker of a TD.
WR:
Justin Jefferson – I give up. I have no more carrots. I have no more hope. I fear for next year. Biggest bust of the year. Just bench/keep him benched this last week.
Colts WRs – A rookie QB and a trio of WRs who do not want to be better than the other ones; no one wants to stand apart. The Colts implosion will continue in this game. Sit them all.
TE:
Juwan Johnson – He faces a Falcons team that is top 3 against the position. Even with Olave out, I still suspect they do well against the position and someone else will get Olave’s stats.
Michael Mayer – He did well in place of Bowers last week, but I don’t expect the same this week against a Chiefs D that is top 10 against the position.
D:
Raiders – They have the #1 draft pick. Why would they want to win and risk losing out on this? They will play poorly even against a depleted Chiefs team.
Browns – All they care about now is getting Myles the record. They want this and well, probably, maybe even a loss too which would actually help them in their draft slot. Game plan – play good on defense to get at least the one sack and the record, but not so good to overcome the crappy play of Sanders.
